Hello everyone! It is so wonderful to see some stunning alphabets happening - Time is zipping by so quickly and I see alot of you have almost finished your alphabets already. So I thought I better do catch up!

Last month my letters were so bright and cheery, maybe because it was the first month of Spring and I had a lot of social gatherings and fun times. This month I've gone all neutral colours, it's funny how my mood is effecting my letters with this alphabet, this month I am recovering from my social butterfly activities :-)

N - torn from a scrap of paper with mark makings; inks and shellac.

O - random piece of timber I found one day and was lying around in my sewing room.

P - I tried my hand at stocking flower making, a spare petal with attached stem to make a 'P'.

Q - paperbark shredded from our Melaleuca leucadendra fine leaf form (Tea-Tree tree), cut into a 'Q' with sissors and sewn on.

And,

R - a recycled used silk T2 teabag cut into an 'R' partly sewn on then filled with the used peppermint tea leaves and sewn closed.

These continue to be fun letters to make. I really like the S with the double strokes in the middle.

Wonderful I have reached the end of this years alphabets. Think I might produce them as a never ending book.

Almost there just one more letter to post.

November letters

Having been a bit behind with my letters, I have had a blitz and completed all of this doodle aplhabet. So now all I have to do is work out how to display them! Valerie

It’s not too often am I faced with a calligraphic drama but I had a disaster with this one. Hopefully I have salvaged it to a degree where I don’t mind showing it! That was showing it … not sewing it!  J

It is a long and drawn out drama but I won’t bore you with the detail.  Poor Fiona got it though ... sorry Fi.  The only thing I will say is my concertina, having been born of craft and on it's way to art, started its life as a mobile! No … not a phone but one of those dangly things that takes your mind off other things!

The concertina is all but finished.  I am biding my time, looking at it and deciding what, if anything to do next.  The black paper was treated with gesso & sgraffito. I lettered in graphite enjoying my time with these lovely little compound capitals. The concertina pages are held together (I hope) with a long strip of the original paper woven through and a couple of stitches in silver thread every now and then.

Ah, I am glad it is done now.  Congratulations everyone I am enjoying your work, frustrated by my own but as Lily Serna says, "I got there in the end"!

Edging closer to the finish...

Here are my latest letters. Continuing with the colourful rainbow, folded origami letters with polka dots theme, I have now made it up to T! Only 6 to go...

Don't you love the shape of the Q? There is something elegant and stylish about the way that lower cross bit folds and presents itself. Perfect!

As a bit of a diversion - does anybody know what the line that crosses a Q is called?  I have found one answer online - "qua" but am not sure that's it...just curious.

And I kind of just like the lightning flash of the S and the way the two triangles form the upper curves of it - very cool.

...'m' is scratched into Gaudi's roof top tiles on the Casa Mila, Barcelona,

'n' is part of the word 'nomad' painted on a sign in the Moroccan desert,

'o' is again from the bronze doors on Gaudi's La Sagrada Falilia in Barcelona,

'p' is a quirky car parking sign we saw in Porto, Portugal - I don't understang the significance of the snail, but is sure is cute.
