JGR Second Alphabet

Hi everyone, I hope you're having a great weekend. Over here, we're knee-deep in celebrating July 4th (tomorrow). There will be swimming and playing by day, cookouts and fireworks by night and . . . lots of heat. 95˚F ish. Now: The beginning of my second alphabet, after doing "Black and White with a bit of texture" for my first alphabet, I'm going all out with color! Also using a modern font as the last one was rather ancient.

Dark purple, light background and bright white with of course some texture. Each letter has a slightly 'out of register' accent over the main letterform.
A cleaner background this time, with the texture inside the letter.
A softer palette this time with a little dramatic color on the left in red.
A more muted palette with subtle texture and a dark letter. Thank you for visiting!

I hope you're all having a good year. It really is flying by! Below are my letters for May.

I've enjoyed this technique and as always: I've learned quite a bit while creating
my alphabet. I've also enjoyed seeing what everyone else has come up with.
I think my favorite part of this technique is the unpredictable texture.

JGR March Letters

Hi everyone, this year is really zooming by and things have been busy here. I'm dangerously close to being 'caught up' though. LOL. Here are my letters for March: I, J, K, L.

I continue to enjoy this spontaneous and slightly unpredictable technique.

Some areas of the texture are delicate and subtle . . .

. . . others are bold and dark,

JGR Letters

Hi everyone, here are February's letters from my 'Black and White with a touch of blue texture' alphabet.

My focus for this alphabet is to be a bit more controlled than in my previous letters of 2010.

Yet, I am drawn to the spontaneous, random look that adds a unique feeling: as if it could never be duplicated exactly.

it's what I find most fascinating about the creative process-mine or anyone else's. Our work becomes something like a 'fingerprint' . . .

. . . each one 'speaks' in a different voice . . .
and if I could only speak one word-it would be 'TEXTURE.' Have a great day!
