On the final leg, I'm almost finished my alphabet

W - butterfly wings.

X - recycled tea bags.

Y - cut from an image of a star with rays.

Z - gum leaf dyed canvas and frayed.

Close up details, finishing up with a couple of photographs on how I propose to display each letter...

I contemplated for a while on how I was going to finish my letters this time. I wanted to think outside the square and funnily enough I ended up putting them inside a square! I got little wooden boxes made and have painted them all white, here the production line is happening.

After sewing brown paper behind the letters I've glued them into place I am now awaiting 26 glass squares so I can enclose them for safe keeping. Below is a detailed group shot...

Kim Schoenberger - STUV

This month's letters are somewhat random in choice of material, and staying well and truely within the boundaries of my KISS method, and remnants of (all) sorts that find there way into my sewing room... (which can look like a bomb has hit it some days :-)

S - a wool strand, certainly simple!

T - a gum leaf, Eucalyptus Citriodora Lemon Scented Gum to be exact, and exuded a lovely fragrance of lemon when sewing. I suspect the hue of ruby will fade over time.

U - a bread bag tag. Funny how I'm seeing letters in the most mundane things since starting alaw!

V - an old patch that's been in my sewing basket for like, eons.

As usual - running late

It was September when I last posted letters to ALWA 2011. I have been creating my post with the words BE, PAX, JOY and MINDFUL on four faces.

 I now need to present the rest of the letters on the post. I have used the balance of letters to create a base border on the post as you can see from the photos below. Of course I did not have enough letters so I have used a boxed X as a filler.

And below are a few photos of the post as a whole - it now sits in gravel garden area on our block.

Kim Schoenberger - NOPQ & R

Hello everyone! It is so wonderful to see some stunning alphabets happening - Time is zipping by so quickly and I see alot of you have almost finished your alphabets already. So I thought I better do catch up!

Last month my letters were so bright and cheery, maybe because it was the first month of Spring and I had a lot of social gatherings and fun times. This month I've gone all neutral colours, it's funny how my mood is effecting my letters with this alphabet, this month I am recovering from my social butterfly activities :-)

N - torn from a scrap of paper with mark makings; inks and shellac.

O - random piece of timber I found one day and was lying around in my sewing room.

P - I tried my hand at stocking flower making, a spare petal with attached stem to make a 'P'.

Q - paperbark shredded from our Melaleuca leucadendra fine leaf form (Tea-Tree tree), cut into a 'Q' with sissors and sewn on.

R - a recycled used silk T2 teabag cut into an 'R' partly sewn on then filled with the used peppermint tea leaves and sewn closed.

Judith's second alphabet

I used a scroll saw machine to cut these letters out of pine.
They are based on the intersecting and outer lines of a hexagon.

Kim Schoenberger - JKLM

Hello my fellow alawist's!! This month I see a little colour creeping into my letters and my current projects are influencing what I material I am using, each taken from each week.

J - wall paper, scraps left over from a 2D assemblage I made for an exhibition.

K - blue jean demin, more scraps! An Alterations shop is keeping their waste remanats for me that I am sharing with Noela. I'm collecting the demin pieces because I just LOVE demin and seeing it is K...

L - cotton discards. Yes, I admit it, I am a collector of things! I just can't seem to throw somethings away. As the material starts to accumulate it speaks to me in its own special way. I am delighted in how cut cotton ends simply from mending can look so kool.

M - cord, saved from gift wrapping, plaited with delibrate loose ends. The loose ends remind me of pigtails. My playful child-like manner, I'm staying true to my KISS method (keep it simple sweetheart) approach.

Next lot of letters as words

As indicated in my earlier ALAW2011 blog post I am using this 2011 second alphabet to create a Pause and Reflection Post with the words: mindful, pax, be and joy on one of each of the four faces of a recycled fence post.
