March Letters

Here is the next set - sorry it's a bit late.  Elderly parents, sibling and sister-in-law both in the hospital and physio for me.  Life is just a bit crazy for me right now.  Doing these squares is a welcome distraction - note definitely distracted as the "L" square didn't quite work out with the colour scheme - oops!  Violet

Heather's Art Deco Alphabet....March Chapter

Hope you're not bored with these letters...they are a bit monotonous but the end product will be worth the wait....I hope.
Not every movie is an Oscar winner ..... these letters are quiet achievers.

les lettres de Lau

Here are my letters of march,
Black, white and brightened up !

Almost half of the alphabet.
That begins to make a long accordion...

I would mean to all the participants that I like coming to admire all that you make.
Every visit is very exciting for me. Bravo, and thank you.

Jenny's March Letters

Here are the March letters. I only realised when I started to put them up that i had written A, B, C and ...V! What does that say about my state of mind??  I had no intention of writing the letters in order - i am just doing whatever comes to the pen at the time.  I also haven't really considered exactly how these are going to be presented together - perhaps i had better start thinking about that quick smart...

Kim Schoenberger - JKLM

BLACK & WHITE With a touch of... ME, RED, & my focus on PLASTIC!

I seemed to be settling into my challenge I have set myself (within the ALaW challenge) on the reduction of my plastic consumption quiet nicely. Last month I found myself in a flurry of frustrations not knowing which way to turn. Ten weeks in, and my efforts are now paying off I'm starting to notice less plastic in the bin.

This months letters have been fun and in my typical way of creating I've gone deeper and deeper into my inner world. This is where the ME comes into it and the colour RED ofcourse represents the life force that pumps through my vains, sustaining, nurturing etc....

J - With a touch of... The Joker this guy was scrificed for art - I loved to play cards! So many fond memories when time just ticked by and it didn't matter. Hours with buddies, hard laughs, drinks, and bloody good fun! Yep, there would be plenty of jokes played (on each other) and told, so many big belly laughs... 300gsm paper, black printing ink applied by scraping off excess, black stitching on the treadle, joker playing card, and plasitc rim.

K - With a touch of... Being 'K' why not reflect me in some way? I have this groovy door curtain of round red & golden yellow transparent plastic (yes plastic). I stare through it every morning and day dream before getting out of bed. I also have a pair of sunglasses with red lenses that I occassional wear, for when I want to see life a little different! 300gsm paper, black printing ink scraped back with a comb, red & black stitching on the treadle, double sided tape, red transparent plastic, and plastic rim.

L - With a touch of... L is delivered on more of a serious note. I often question myself. Repeatedly on all areas in life, my up bringing was; respect your elders, do the right thing, children are not seen and not heard you get the drift... so I am forever asking myself, do I measure up? my answer always come back to "it keeps me honest!" 300gsm paper, black printing ink woodblock, red printing ink applied with a patterned rolling pin, red & black stitching on the treadle, plastic tape measure and rim.

M - With a touch of... I went all patriotic on this one. An Australia Day stick-on tattoo with melted initial seal wax dripped on - a few hidden meanings to this one! 300gsm paper, black printing ink M monoprint, red stitching on the treadle, stick-on tattoos, seal wax and plastic rim.

March Letters from Elaine

Here are the next letters, continuing my theme of using a double ruling pen on Mylar film with coloured threads (changing now from reds to pinks).

I thought you might like to have a look at my double ruling pen. I found it in an ‘old wares’ shop a few years ago. The smaller screws are used to adjust the width of the mark that you want to make, the bigger screw adjusts the space between these marks. It is great fun to use!

Sue from South Africa

Herewith my first submission for the ALAW 2011 after playing catch-up! Title is White on Black with a touch of metallic Pink! I made 7cm squares of black card with ruled metallic pink around the edges. I used a Derwent Pastel White Pencil to draw the letters then painted them with a combination of white gouache and acrylic white paint mixed together with a hint of the metallic pink in the strokes of the letters. After drawing and decorating the letters I then cut up the black card to make a concertina folded book but will display it open as the completed cut up card will make an interesting shape (well, I think so!!)

Warm regards, Sue in South Africa

Marching on in March - Fiona

Phew - made it!

Here are the four letters for March - again overlays of italic done with different sized and styles of nibs with a hint of gold.

I haven't folded them yet as I have been thinking about changing the look of the final piece.  I think they will still be folded, but I am thinking of arranging them slightly differently.

We have been away a lot and staying in different places, so as I try to get to sleep at night I have been imagining these folded pieces and their possible combinations and variations. The act of counting and concentrating seems to be enough to send me off, but I'm not sure yet if its the right approach for creating beautiful art! We shall see.

So for now; they will probably be folded but not held together.

If I get the chance I might re-do the 'i' - the five pronged music nib was a wee bit full when I hit the paper with it, creating a great big blob-line. Sigh.

Gemma's tiny March conversations

These are my contribution for March 2011. I hope you like them.
In the "detail" image don't you just love this bone folder ... isn't he grand?  I found it at a junk come antique shop in the Central NSW town of Narromine where my boarding school girlfriend Ned lives.
