Noela's Mayan Alphabet finished

Yes, it's done!
I stitched the 7cm square wire and teabag letters to a clear perspex waste off cut, then dangled the lot from a lovely piece of driftwood. I wanted the letters to work against a wall and also in a window to show off the translucency of the teabags - a bit of a compromise and quite a challenge but I'm reasonably pleased with the end result.

I am looking forward to starting my dots, but oh dear, I still have to finish my box letters from 2010!!, so don't feel guilty if you are behind with your 2011 letters.

Happy 2012 everyone

late but...

finally done!
With immense feelings of guilt for not having delivered my coloured alphabet on time..., but also with a triumphant sense of accomplishment(!!!) for having finally completed it, here is my second set of letters for the ALAW 2011 project. This time I chose my native language's alphabet: greek! I "drew" it in photoshop and then played with a scanned monotype from a just completed series titled: "landmarks".
I enjoyed being part of this international art space and loved seeing the amazing alphabets produced by you..., and you.., and you, and all!!!
Fiona, thank you for welcoming my participation and for creating this lovely project that truly gave me some fun breaks... All the best wishes to all of you for the new year and for all your future projects,
Happy 2012!

Jenny's Final Piece

Here it is! It was too expensive to get it done so I stuck them down myself - I held my breath the whole time! They are more or less straight ...

I've just realized that I didn't quite make it into 2011 - I had it done before, I promise! The end of the year was so hectic ...

Elaine's finished piece

Unfortunately I didn’t manage to show my individual pieces in the last few months, but here they are at last, all combined into a finished piece.

For a long time I have wanted to put together a piece that was made up of squares, but using the 7cm size squares would have made it too large, so by using ‘heat- reduced’ pieces it resulted in a smaller format (25 cm x 25 cm). Anyone who knows me would know that I am much more comfortable with that!

The pieces have been attached to a fabric covered support
which has been mounted onto a larger frame, also covered in fabric.

It has been wonderful to be part of this project again and it is so exciting to see the variety of creative work that everyone produces. I look forward to this year, thank you, Fiona.

First alphabet for 2011 finished!

Talk about at the eleventh hour! Alphabet with a touch of ... is finished.

This year has been a very hectic one. Our trip to NY was fabulous with some wonderful calligraphic discoveries.

It took me ages to work out the details for this one. I knew it was going to be in a box, but then couldn't find the little brass thingy (no idea what they are actually called) to pin my letters together so it was like a book. Gemma to the rescue! Itzick and I went to Hobart to see MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) and spent a lovely morning with Gemma and David. She produced the 'thingy' when I was talking about how I wanted to present my alphabet. Then I had to make the box - no problem. But what to do for the 'covers' of the book! Anyway, here it is. I am very pleased with myself.

So here are  to

Number 2 is on the way - believe it or not! And with a couple more days off before getting back to work I hope to finish it very soon.

All the best for the New Year everyone.
Meg

Mieke's almost finished

I did surprise myself this time, got this alphabet  almost finished witch I thought would never happen this year.

Mainly because I really didn't know how to go about it this time. I started with the photo's and had no idea were to go next. Luckily in the end it fell  into place in some way and I'm on the last stretch and them  connected, How????? working on it!!!

And hopefully ready just before the new year announces itself.

Noela's Final Letters

At last - the final letters for my 'Black and White' alphabet, 2011 and the book put together - a very simple concertina, but at least it's done. I am still to experiment with more complex book formats.

U...marble wall decoration, Starbucks, Barcelona,
V...Commemorative plaque, St Michael's Mount, Cornwall, UK,
W...'Welcome' sign, Plough Inn, Surrey, UK,
X...Wooden stamp, Brick Lane market, London, UK,
Y...Graffiti, back street, Barcelona, Spain,
Z...Gaudi's tiles, rooftop, Casa Mila, Barcelona, Spain.
I used an old stained ribbon to wrap around the book - seemed fitting to continue with the 'old' theme.

I am still to put together my Mayan alphabet but hey - I have 2 weeks of the year left!!!
Thanks to everyone for creating such fabulously inspiring letters, and especially to Fiona for being patient and keeping us on the go.
I look forward to participating again next year and seeing the amazing skill and creativity out there.
Happy Silly Season to all.
